Aesop's Fables by Gisela Dürr

Illustrated by Charlotte Voake

Aesop has remained popular through the ages for two simple reasons - he was a shrewd observer of human nature, and he was a gifted storyteller. He was the first to prove that a tale with a sharp moral lesson can also be thoroughly amusing. From the famous story of the Tortoise and the Hare to the lesser-known fable of the Monkey and the camel, this book offers a fine assortment of Aesop at his best.

Aesop is a master of characterisation, scene, and setting, and the illustrations by Gisela Dürr match him stroke for stroke, with a sure hand and a warm heart. She has created engaging pencil drawings for each story, superbly reproduced using a duotone printing process.

Based on her thesis project at the University of Applied Science in Mainz, Germany, Aesop's Fables is Gisela Dürr's first children's book. Although the twenty-three- year-old illustrator grew up watching television with the Sesame Street generation, she feels that picture books are a necessary addition to our everyday life.
"Opening the covers of a picture book stretches the
mind, leading the reader into a whole new world of fantasy, adventure, and imagination."
